Dr. Maurer, Psy.D., LCP. - Your Mental Wellness Partner.
I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. I graduated with a Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Washington, DC. I provide individual and group therapy as well as some psychological assessments to children, adolescents and adults.
I have over 18 years of experience working in hospitals, in-home, community, private practice, and college settings with diverse populations in all stages of development. My specialty areas include crisis management and intervention in all settings and behavioral health. I completed my internship at the University of Washington in Seattle, where I worked with adult students to help them navigate through a variety of life challenges.
My approach to treatment incorporates social justice, cognitive behavioral, existential, narrative, positive psychology, feminist multi-cultural, psychoanalytic, and mindfulness components. I value the therapeutic relationship and genuineness in therapy. I strive to meet each individual where they are in life by collaboratively creating a safe space to name feelings and thoughts without judgment. In my work, I encourage self-expression and self-exploration with insight while collaboratively helping people identify, set, and reach realistic goals. At S.I.A.H, I serve as Owner & CCO.

My therapeutic style emphasizes compassion, collaboration, and practical skill development to support meaningful and lasting change. I am particularly effective in treating mood disorders, trauma and stress-related disorders, emotional regulation difficulties, family and interpersonal challenges, and a wide range of behavioral concerns. As a group practice, your PHI may be shared internally among our therapists, clinical supervisors, and authorized administrative personnel as necessary for treatment, payment, and healthcare operations. We are required by law to maintain the privacy and security of your PHI, provide you with this Notice of our legal duties and privacy practices, notify you in the event of a breach of unsecured PHI, and follow the terms of this Notice currently in effect. We may use and disclose PHI without your written authorization for treatment (such as consultation among clinicians within the practice or referral to outside providers), payment (including submitting claims, verifying insurance benefits, and collecting balances), and healthcare operations (including supervision, quality improvement, credentialing, compliance, and practice management). We may also disclose PHI without authorization when required or permitted by law, including in medical emergencies; to comply with valid Virginia court orders or subpoenas; to report suspected child abuse or neglect, or abuse, neglect, or exploitation of an elderly or incapacitated adult as required under Virginia mandatory reporting laws; or when there is a serious and imminent threat to your health or safety or that of others consistent with Virginia’s duty to protect standards. Psychotherapy notes and federally protected substance use disorder treatment records (42 CFR Part 2, where applicable) receive additional protections and generally require specific written authorization for disclosure.
Our practice has partnered with Headway to support certain administrative functions, including insurance processing and billing services. In connection with this partnership, we comply with applicable HIPAA requirements and also adhere to the Notice of Privacy Practices provided by Headway, which is furnished to clients prior to their first scheduled appointment. You have the right to inspect and obtain a copy of your PHI (with limited exceptions), request amendments to your record, request an accounting of certain disclosures made within the past six years, request reasonable restrictions on certain uses or disclosures (including the right to restrict disclosure to your health plan if you have paid in full out-of-pocket), and request confidential communications by alternative means or locations. Requests must generally be made in writing to our designated Privacy Officer at compliance@headway.co or via phone at (833) 384-1044. In accordance with Virginia law, parental access to a minor’s records and a minor’s ability to consent to certain mental health services are governed by specific state confidentiality rules, which we will follow. You may file a complaint with our Privacy Officer or with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights if you believe your privacy rights have been violated; you will not face retaliation for filing a complaint. We reserve the right to revise this Notice at any time, and any revisions will apply to all PHI maintained by the practice. A current copy of this Notice is available upon request.
